February 2011

I’ve been playing around with letter-based mixtapes recently, and what better letter to start with than T?! T for Tom!
Thunderbird - Seasick Steve
Today’s Lesson - Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
There There (The Boney King of Nowhere) - Radiohead
Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 2 - My Morning Jacket
Toby Light - Pikelet
Too Careful - End of Fashion
This Is A Business - The Dodos
Thank You - Jay-Z
Two Trees - Two Trees
‘Till The Real Thing Comes Along - Mel Torme
Two Shoes - The Cat Empire
Travelling Woman - Bat For Lashes
Tightrope Walker - Epicure
Even though it doesn’t really represent everything I listen to, I feel like this is a really good reflection of my personal tastes. I think it’s an intimate one, but that’s me. I’m also really happy with the way it flows.
The Trouble with Cool - Marieke Hardy
I think Marieke shows her age a bit here. When she was a teenager, there was a line between things that were cool and things that wern’t. She’s right in saying our generation doesn’t have anything it can uniformly agree on being cool, but she misses the other side of that argument (the more important side): we also don’t have things we all agree are uncool. I can dress however I want, listen to whoever I want, watch whatever I want, and like whatever I want, and all is well. Everything is fair game, and I think that’s a good thing.

And I straight away thought of video games in which characters seem to stand at that exact distance. Like in Morrowind, when you’re generally minding your own business when you turn around and suddenly…

BAM.
To a lesser extent it reminds me of the characters in the original Dune video game, who (if you left them alone for a bit) would suddenly be all up in your grills asking you things.

The man is a mighty troll.
I appriciate this.
Tute on!
